Ethereal Presence

Through staged scenes and a touch of surrealism, a sense of contrast is evoked, both literally and metaphorically. From the organic surroundings, with long, untouched grasses and untamed foliage, to the harsh geometric manmade forms in the foreground that appear wrong and out of place. The deep ablaze of green growth filling the background clashes with the bleak white of the household furniture. The staged manmade objects feel cold and stiff and stale with their discolouration.

“Human presence: it is present even when the body is not. This work is a reminder of the human touch on the natural world. A reminder of how we have come to call this place, our earth, home, and yet we are so uncomfortable with the rawness of its state. We are uncomfortable with the true untouched earth that we protrude an ethereal presence when we take up space within it.”
