Tactico is an accessible scissors brand was developed collaboratively by Angela Lam and Ming Zhao, which targets consumers above the ages of 12+ who have partial blindness, and/or low-fine motor skills such as arthritis.More often than not, scissors are encased in plastic blister packaging, which requires consumers to use an existing pair of scissors to cut open the packaging. Not only does this plastic blister packaging make it difficult for partially-blind consumers to feel the shape of the scissor handle and blades before making their purchase, but it also makes it incredibly challenging for individuals with low-fine motor skills to open. Furthermore, cutting open the hard plastic packaging can potentially be hazardous, because it exposes the consumer to sharp edges during the process. Therefore, with the design of Tactico, a cardboard substrate was utilized to incorporate a new functional tactile aspect to the packaging through the embossing of letters and symbols, the moulding of scissor blades, and the die-cut reveal of scissor handles. As a result, the consumer would be able to safely feel every part of the scissors, including the blade, allowing them to "experience" and test out the scissors before purchasing them.To learn more about this project, please visit the link below, or angelalam-design.com/Tactico
