Gelatin bioplastic featuring text from Journey to the West was hand-cut, then molded to my shoulders, beginning soft and pliable but slowly stiffening into an exoskeleton. Memory and nostalgia as a source of both comfort and restriction. Members of diasporic communities are often forced to hold onto history to feel authentic to their culture, whether it be myths and legends, or ancient history. But when does this become restrictive to present growth? What does the contemporary existence and future of my community look like?
