Meet the Artist

Seamus

Neufeld

Art and Craft

“The love moves are a series of transformations, both physical and internal. The craft process is mapped, the object always growing while process is eternalized: holding, seeing, burying, saying goodbye. Material narratives emerge when considering the wood, vines, clay, and found objects in these works have been collected onsite in Dundas, Ontario. The craft process is understood as a material collaboration between the artist and the objects themselves, with some of these processes filmed and projected alongside their physical partners. This creates bridges within the work, the past being inside the present. The artist imbues each piece with their emotions and associated memories of this land, specifically in reference to human relationships he has both formed and dissolved here. The artist is solving a difficult problem in a beautiful place, through the transformation of habits. All of this is done to prioritize love, and within this, love for the land. Following this love with dedication, both through and alongside. It is prioritized in the work to stay present during the true experience of making, with honesty and respect. Love moves, and the artist follows these changes. Always with deep gratitude.”
