“"mycomimic" is a play about looking to mycelium networks to build more interconnected communities. Lured in by a chorus of worms, the human character, HOST, travels into the mycelium to shed their human form, decompose and join the collective network. They're confronted by a veiled lady (phallus indusiatus) mushroom who interrogates their perceptions of self, life and death. The work centers themes of interconnectivity, biomimicry and the deconstruction of the individual. The play is intended to be performed as a puppetry piece, and was produced by Elysse Shirley as an audio play excerpt. ”

Gus Lederman is a writer and theatre performer based in Tkaronto. They've written theatre reviews for Intermission Magazine and articles for Cannopy Magazine. Gus is passionate about writing plays, community-building and climate justice, culminating in their thesis play, "mycomimic". In their time in the Creative Writing program at OCAD, Gus was the Editor-in-Chief of the first edition of the program's literary journal, "Pulse", and contributed to the 2023 and 2024 editions. They also co-ran a program called "Eco Poetics," where students across programs took workshops in climate justice and created poetic responses. Gus completed their minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies and brings a lot of that knowledge into their writing. They explore themes of transness, queerness and critiques of colonialism into their work. In 2021, for their final assignment in ASOC-2001: Art and Social Change, they wrote and produced a fundraiser EP titled "stories on stolen land", raising $470 for the legal funds of two Indigenous land defender groups, 1492 Land Back Lane and Braided Warriors. Gus looks forward to continuing to explore playwriting, engaging in community organizing and carving a career in writing and theatre.
