Derya Ozparlak is a Toronto-based Canadian multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, animation, stop-motion, and installation. Her artistic practice explores themes of identity, white-collar culture, discrimination, cultural diversity, environmental issues, and societal norms.Since 2006, Derya's work has been featured in corporate, museum, and public collections, and exhibited in prominent galleries, art fairs, and symposiums across Canada, France, Sri Lanka, Turkey, the US, Spain, Lebanon, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Costa Rica. Her pieces have earned awards and recognition from artistic communities in Turkey, India, Sweden, Spain, and the USA.Select exhibitions include “Light up the Dark” at the Aga Khan Museum, “Lightness” in Istanbul (2013), “Negotiating Diaspora: From the Personal to the Universal” at Oeno Gallery (2021), and “Vuslat” at Odunpazarı Modern Museum in Eskişehir, Turkey (2019). Her participation in events such as the International Stone Sculpture Symposium in Almería, Spain (2006), the Chicago SOFA Art and Design Fair (2013), and Contemporary Istanbul (2014–2015) further highlights her international presence.She received her BFA in Sculpture from Anadolu University in 2008, graduating with the highest GPA in her department as a high honors student. She is currently completing a second BFA in Experimental Animation at OCAD University in Toronto.She lives and works in Toronto.
