“My work explores the interconnectedness of humanity and nature, prompting reflection on environmental and cultural issues. In "Self-Inventory", I attempt to unravel the densities of heritage and sense of belonging while also offloading the burden of having to explain my existence to others. ”
Deanna Gene, a Toronto-based artist, merges her passion for eco art and culture-based expressions into captivating installations. Her work explores the interconnectedness of humanity and nature, prompting reflection on environmental and cultural issues. With a dynamic fusion of light, sound, and mixed media, Deanna creates immersive experiences that invite viewers to contemplate their role in society and the planet. Her exhibitions span prestigious venues like Assembly Hall and the Toronto Biennial of Art, while collaborations with community arts organizations enrich her engagement with diverse communities. Armed with a diploma in Visual and Digital Arts from Humber College, Deanna is currently finishing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at OCAD University, shaping her into a prominent figure in contemporary art.
