“As a Canadian-Armenian artist exploring themes of identity, womanhood, and mysticism through my work, I employ symbolic and cultural elements to convey disjointed narratives. With an unclear narrative, the viewer is left with their own subjective interpretation; an amalgamation specific to their personal experiences. The works oscillate between the rational and irrational, between reality and the imaginary, between memory and fantasy.”

Anna Petrosyan (b.1999) is a Yerevan-born, Toronto based fine artist and educator. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature with Distinction and a BEd in Elementary Teaching from Yerevan State University. Currently, she is working towards her BFA in Drawing and Painting with a minor in English. As an educator, Anna divides her time between facilitating activities at the Royal Ontario Museum and volunteering as a Gallery Guide at the Textile Museum of Canada. As an artist, Anna is interested in depicting absurd imagery to challenge the viewer's logic and make the work less consumable. In a hyper-visual world, images are constantly being consumed by observers and Anna considers it important to create thought-provoking paintings.Anna has exhibited in the GTA, as well as in her hometown, Yerevan, Armenia. In an online format, she has also taken part in international surrealist experimental exhibitions and has been published in a global youth-led magazine focused on social change and dystopian visions. In addition to her drawing and painting practice, Anna also works as a graphic designer and has previously designed logos for brands, such as Puma and Angry Birds.
