“Three stages to summarize change. To embrace movement allows us to understand nature within and outside ourselves. Only experiencing one stage at a time, but together they show progression. We all have this in common, giving faith over to the gods.First, born fleshy and vulnerable, many limbs act to protect and defend. Survival beyond this stage is necessary for development but not guaranteed.Second, the creation of a cocoon and the shedding away of all the skin that once provided blood flow for the growth into maturity. The beginning of movement from one vessel to another.Third, inhabiting the shell of the predecessor to provide the shelter and protection needed to grow to full maturity. A place to live and eventually die.I dedicate this work to those who helped me along the way, who taught me, hurt me, and remained with me.”

My name is Anna Bell Woodbury and I am currently 22 years old. I’m a fourth-year student attending OCADU for Material Arts and Design. I will be graduating at the end of this term and have been practicing metalsmithing for the past four years while selling my work on the side as ready-made and commissioned pieces. I was cultivating an art practice in textiles and digital media before my time at OCAD which has conceptually and aesthetically informed my metalwork.
