aka. LP, 2D/3D animator
““The Dark Space” is a short animation piece that blends 2D animation technique with 3D animationtechnique. With its experimental/autobiographical aspect, the project takes the audience through mypersonal journey and view of moving to a new country from a young age. Furthermore, the story’s driving force is the dark space itself, a visual manifestation of the main character’s subconscious and initial struggles when it comes to adapting himself into a new environment. Throughout the story, the lead character is trapped in this void in which the element of water acts as a direct antagonist for theprotagonist. In the same way that I experienced overwhelming thoughts towards the idea of a new home and environment, from Madagascar to Canada, the presence of water causes tension and pression for the main character.”
Lucas Pierre-Denis is a 2D/3D animator based in Toronto. He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation at the Ontario College of Arts and Design and currently operates from his home studio to produce short animated films. Through a simple and colourful linework that resembles comic style animation, Lucas' work aims to be directed towards a younger audience. Most of piece strongly emphasizes colour and contains an almost exaggerated/distorted facial expression to create a sense of disturbing humor. His work ranges from 2D animation to 3D animation. As part of his education, Lucas followed an intensive, mentored internship (by professional artists) specialized in Portrait and the Human Face Anatomy, in Montreal (Canada). One of his animated works was selected among the best animations at a public gallery event organized in Montreal, Quebec (Canada).
