The Dark Space

“The Dark Space” is a piece that blends 2D animation with 3D animation. The story revolves around the main character attempting to get out of a parallel dimension that acts as a visual representation of his inner fear as he struggles dealing with the challenges of moving to a new country.With its experimental/autobiographical aspect, the project takes the audience through my personal journey and view of moving to a new country from a young age. Furthermore, the story’s driving force is the dark space itself, a visual manifestation of the main character’s subconscious and initial struggles when it comes to adapting himself into a new environment. Throughout the story, the lead character is trapped in this void in which the element of water acts as a direct antagonist for the protagonist. In the same way that I experienced overwhelming thoughts towards the idea of a new home and environment, from Madagascar to Canada, the presence of water causes tension and pression for the main character.
