Experimental Animation

Mya Van Dyk is a Toronto based artist specializing in animation. They deal with themes of lesbian identity, girlhood, and connection, drawing from personal experiences through a heightened and whimsical lens. With an affinity for explosion and transformation motifs in their work, Van Dyk aims to make captivating short films that utilize the narrative and creative potential of animation. During their studies, Van Dyk has worked as an animator on the short film Gale which has gone on to win various awards at screenings. They have also worked with The Canadian Art Song Project and a group of other talented animators to create a music video which celebrates Canadian history. Venturing outside the world of animation, Van Dyk worked as Props Master for the short film Sick Bird showing their versatility and creative range.
