“I believe that the integration of nature and meditation within architecture and design has a profound impact on mental health and overall wellbeing. In a world that often overwhelms the senses and disconnects people from natural rhythms, creating spaces that restore balance, calm, and connection is essential—especially for those experiencing homelessness, who often face chronic stress, trauma, and isolation. This belief forms the foundation of the design principles for this wellness shelter. By embedding natural elements—such as light, greenery, and organic materials—and providing spaces for stillness, reflection, and guided meditation, the shelter becomes more than a place of refuge. It becomes a restorative environment that nurtures healing, dignity, and hope. In this way, nature and meditation are not decorative or secondary features—they are central to the architecture, shaping both the atmosphere and the experience of the space.”
