Meet the Designer
“Any designs should incorporate nature to create a harmonious and balanced circumstance for people and other species.”
Hi there, my name is Yiyang Zhang, but you can call me Leo. I finished my Design Bachelor's degree in Environmental Design major at the Ontario College of Art & Design University. I'm passionate about sustainability and incorporating natural systems into my designs. Also, I completed the Online Research Seminar "Nothing More, Nothing Less" under the guidance of Professor Neil M. Denari from UCLA. My team and I designed a residential building called "Nature Recorder" using limited tools, materials, and software. As a Design Intern at HiGarden International Inc., I had the opportunity to design the entire winter garden with my supervisor and learn about different natural systems like soil, hydroponics, and aquaponics. This experience solidified my interest in sustainable architecture and inspired me to think of new ideas for "biophilic" designs. And I also volunteered at the United Nations as a translator and donated to UNICEF.As a member of the logistics department at the OCAD U Chinese Students Association, I collaborated with other department members and coordinated activities like annual orientations, holiday parties, and galas. Additionally, I worked on a film crew as an Assistant Director, managing schedules and filming assignments for the cast and crew.In terms of skills, I'm proficient in various design software like AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, D5, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I'm also certified as a National Second-Level Athlete and fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. In my free time, I enjoy rendering, playing sports like badminton, soccer, swimming, skiing, snorkeling, riding a bike, learning Spanish and German, playing video games, listening to music, and reading.
