"Evolutionary Resilience in Peril: Analyzing the Impact and Strategies of 'Climate Change: The New Evolutionary Challenge for the Galapagos'"

Publication
2022
This research paper critically examines Project FP185, formally titled "Climate Change: The New Evolutionary Challenge for the Galapagos," a major climate adaptation initiative funded by the Green Climate Fund. The paper explores the project's efforts to address climate-induced threats to the Galapagos Islands’ ecosystems and biodiversity, including ocean acidification, altered rainfall and temperature patterns, and species adaptation. By integrating course concepts and scientific literature, the paper evaluates the project's environmental strategies, community engagement, and ethical commitments, while also analyzing how the project aligns with global sustainability goals and public communication practices.

“Project StatementThis study analyzes how Project FP185 confronts the climate challenges facing the Galapagos Islands through ecological restoration, community capacity building, and sustainable development. Framed by key scientific and ethical perspectives from course texts, including works by Harris, Hulme, and Theis, the paper argues that the project serves as a model for integrated climate resilience. It highlights the importance of localized adaptation strategies, public education, and international funding mechanisms, while calling for more transparent community participation and long-term policy alignment. By investigating the scientific and ethical dimensions of the project, the research underscores the need for climate solutions that balance environmental sustainability with social equity and global cooperation.”
