Research Study Tip Sheet

This tip sheet summarizes the findings of the research study I conducted under the supervision of Nancy Snow for my independent study, which occurred within the framework of OCAD University’s Research Ethics Board. Which ensures that all research involving human participants, such as interviews and surveys adheres to strict ethical standards, including informed consent and confidentiality.The project explored what industry professionals are currently looking for in portfolio practices when hiring junior graphic designers. Aiming to provide up-to-date, practical guidance for emerging designers navigating a rapidly evolving job market shaped by post-COVID realities and the rise of artificial intelligence.Participants were recruited through professional networks such as the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) and the Toronto Design Directory. The study combined survey and interview data with a review of existing literature. Research was conducted over the course of the fall semester, with analysis and synthesis completed afterwards.In alignment with my personal belief that research should be easily accessible and free, I published a digital version online. Further, I created miniature printed versions which allowed me to distribute my knowledge to my peers. This size kept production costs extremely low, and made them portable for students.
