Package Design: Design for GoodTasked with creating a conceptual product and its packaging design using the prompt, "Design for Good". This category is open to any packaging consumer products designed for doing a good that emphasizes positivity, kindness, and better quality of life.Project INVENTOR is a conceptual tool/craft kit for the occasional craftsperson. A kit that stores the essential tools required in any hands-on design project, at the desk or on the go.For anyone who is constantly misplacing their tools and could benefit from keeping them all in one place. A secure storage system while still allowing easy access to individual tools without needing to dig through a messy toolbox.INVENTOR was the creation of 5 design principles:1. AccessibilityThe product must be easy to access and use. No difficult maneuvers should be required to open or close it. It should be operable with one hand if needed.To solve this, INVENTOR implements a magnetic clasp and unfolding structure that can be flipped out and rolled back up without having to use a locking mechanism2. Structural IntegrityTools are typically used in situations where things can get messy, dangerous or dirty. The product should be able to protect itself and its contents and withstand any external impacts.INVENTOR is fabricated with a hard plastic shell wrapped with leather. It is drop-safe and water-resistant. 3. Sustainability The product should be made of sustainable material that does not further harm the environment. No more material should be used than needed, wherever possibleINVENTOR is constructed with recycled ocean plastics and mycelium leather, a sustainable mushroom leather alternative to animal leather.4. ModularityThe product should be able to serve multiple purposes and act as a hub for tools.INVENTOR's design allows for multiple carrying and attachment methods for use within different environments. it can stand freely or lie flat on a desk, attached to the body via a hook ring, or hung up on a wall.5. VisibilityThe product should be easily visible, especially within a tool-occupied space. Whether on a shelf or in a workshop, it should be easily recognizable at a distance.The INVENTOR brand utilizes bold typography and highly contrasting colours to ensure maximum visibility.Click the PDF link to check out the full project from start to finish.
