Три Девицы

“Three Fair Maidens” portrays the warmth and playfulness of sisterhood that develops amongst my characters — Mira, Lada, and Ira (from top to bottom) — even though they’re neither blood related, nor of the same species. Special emphasis is placed on bright colours and patterning which are integral in traditional clothing, and in this case, creating a whimsical atmosphere that is usually present among girlfriends.

“For the title I once again chose a line from Pushkin’s writing (The Tale of Tsar Saltan), this time to create contrast with the subject matter, and take a dig at the common fairytale trope where three sisters betray one another.”“Three fair maidens, late one night, Sat and spun by candlelight.”
