An introduction back into painting after a brief hiatus, this still life challenged my ability to render various different forms and textures while playing with composition. utilizing items present within my own ceremonial bundle (i.e.; sage, sweet grass, skulls, turtle shells, animal hides and pelts) I incorporate these objects amongst one another to create a personally authentic depiction of Indigenous life while appropriating the visual aesthetic of European art history

“Many aspects of our visual culture as Indigenous people of North America are often subjugated to souvenirs; whether created by actual Indigenous peoples or a target for mass production.”
