Snow Dance is an interactive installation experience inspired by the nostalgia and tranquility of a season's first snowfall. “The fleeting nature of snow means that we're more likely to appreciate it...The changing view,...combined with how it evokes memories of childhood – ....make it psychologically stimulating"(Geall, 2022). This installation captures just that. "Snow Dance" is a series of audio reactive videos as well as interactivity controlled by a user's webcam. Physical buttons and the incorporation of the webcam allow the audience to have a more hands-on and immersive experience, as if they're in a snowstorm themselves. This project serves as an opportunity for the general public to wander through and explore the beauty and magic of snow. This project is envisioned in a gallery or pop-up exhibition.
“When creating my interactive prototype in TouchDesigner, I decided to use a compilation of "anime snowfall scenery" I found off Youtube. Anime always has a great sense of nostalgia in their imagery so I thought it would be a great base for "Snow Dance". I decided to take two of my favourite classical pieces combined with a noise filter for the audio reactive element. Finally, I brought everything together with the Arduino inputs and added the webcam interaction for an additional effect. Elements that can be physically manipulated by the user include; button 1 (switch music), and button 2 (noise layer), button 3 (snowfall layer), button 4 (play/pause music).”
