Comic Relief

Leon would rather sit alone to read his comic than socialize at a party, but after his friend Vivian gives him an unknown drug, he experiences a night he’ll never forget.

“Comic Relief is a 2D mixed media animated short film, exploring peer pressure and the challenges our generation faces when put in social situations. My film acts as an epilogue for my university journey as a student and my growth as an artist. The themes presented in my film reflect the societal expectations that still haunt me as a young adult. Leon is an animated extension of myself, struggling between conforming with peers and the reluctance to embrace common adulthood activities. The title, Comic Relief, implies a double meaning, almost cheeky in nature. There are moments of comedic relief intertwined within a more serious storyline, and at the same time Leon uses the comic book to find relief from the unsettling effects of the drug trip.”
