Starving Artist

A two-minute, animated short film that begins when a shooting star lands in the yard of a young boy who, upon discovery, swallows it, and when the star begins to alter his body and surroundings beyond control, it ultimately consumes him.

““Starving Artist” is a digital, 2D animation with traditionally drawn backgrounds that revolve around the act of consumption between a young boy and a shooting star as the ending implies a repetitive cycle of events. My inspiration for the animation style came from the embroidery work of Iyo Okumi as it would compliment the storybook narrative of this piece. The title of my work refers to both the actual starving artist stereotype as a tongue and cheek self-reflection as well as the hungry, resolute nature of a star. This animation mainly focuses on themes of child curiosity and fixation. They’re born from the sense of exploration and creative desire in my growth as an artist over the course of my life. My intention with this film was to enjoy the process as much as possible so that audiences have the utmost fun watching my animation as I had making it. ”
