Spikes, Wax, Oil paint on Wood Panel
48" x 18" x 4"
As a woman when I feel sad or sorrowful it has a lot of different sensations. It is a very complex emotion. I wanted to cover the coldness of the metal with wax. I didn’t want to just leave spikes naked...Sometimes no, many times I hide my wounded heart covered with a smile…
“The reason that I chose the spikes is their materiality. Cold, metal, strong, sharp that always need action to be installed…My work is usually very personal. I started art as therapy and almost all my works represent my state of mind. Not only the spikes, but I also love using materials that can create vigorous, significant texture. Texture depicts my pain and sorrow. Of course, the pain and sadness could be expressed rough and dramatic but I want to add subtle beauty and sensitivity. As a woman when I feel sad or sorrowful it has a lot of different sensations. It is a very complex emotion. I wanted to cover the coldness of the metal with wax. I didn’t want to just leave spikes naked...Sometimes no, many times I hide my wounded heart covered with a smile…This is the second work that I made with spikes. First time I used black and white and this time it is blue. I don’t have a clear reason why I chose blue but this winter I am obsessed with blue for some reason. When it happens, I just follow my inner voice… maybe my mind wants to speak through the blue... ”
