Clara (Eunkoung)
Kim
aka. She/her, Drawing and Painting
“My artworks focus on portraying how the state of mind and emotions play a significant role in revealing that interaction between the viewer and the painting, and how that creates in the viewer a path to some truth about tribulations and subsequent transformation.”

She is a Toronto-based artist, born and raised in Seoul, Korea, and graduated as a music major. Later accepted to the conservatory of music in L’Aquila Italy. Feeling restricted in music alone, she is currently in the bachelor of fine arts program at OCAD U in Toronto. Her inspiration for her work is based on the emotional and psychological sufferings of women, the initial blow, the shattering of the known life, but also the resilience to place the pieces back together in a new way. Her medium of expression is in the way common materials are used but focuses on the arrangement so as to shine a different light. This unique hue of expression permeated in her work is the result of her experiences of her life in Seoul and Toronto and also many years in Italy. To take a common material like paper or nails, and impose force, by ripping or smashing, or crumbling it. Though shattered to pieces, often involuntary, the rearrangement of the pieces is her focus. With this archetype, she creates collages and paintings in an abstract and conceptual manner, expressing the tender femininity which transforms experiences into beauty and strength.
