Van Dyke Gelatin Prints on Porcelain and Ceramic Tiles
Various Dimensions
Images printed on porcelain and ceramic tiles using van dyke solution and gelatin. Consisting of 70+ tiles installed on elevated wooden pallets to be seen from above.

“This work explores the photographic object as well as the physicality of the photograph and how it recontextualizes its image. Comprised of Van Dyke gelatin prints on tiles Porcelain and Ceramic is a piece which draws the attention of the viewer through its installation. Inviting those to walk around displaced space and observe the images through multiple directions and angles. The images are composed of neglected items and irrelevant moments. The scenery depicted in these images become shunned in memory through lack of care and are subjected to degradation. This invitation creates a sense of intimacy between the images and observer by pulling the photograph from the walls and placing the printed tiles onto elevated pallets. Creating a space where the audience can experience the work through a physical change in perspective.Tiles have a single purpose to be tread upon and walked over, used as the substrate for the photographs demonstrates the irrelevance of the imagery and how these neglected moments become trampled over. Connoted with the ideas of fragility, porcelain and ceramic further echo the sentiment of the images as these moments are fragile in the sense that they are easily overwritten. They become shadowed and overpowered by the more relevant. The function of this installation disables the act of stepping upon this material and the irrelevant imagery, instead forcing the audience to engage with the work by intimately inspecting the photographs from above. Ultimately becoming enthralled with these moments through this intimacy.”

“For me, photography acts as a playground for experimentation. Using alternative processes and figuring out how to create a print is what makes photography amusing. Discovering new methods and ideas...” [More]
