Did you assume that the image shown beside is displayed in the wrong orientation? My answer is no, or I would rather say it cannot be certain. Playing with the direction of the image by upending or rotating the image to unveil the hiddenness of the equivocal space, I suggest to doubt our perception or recognition of reality and any binary notions of the opposite. Capturing the mid-movement figure passing through the space in between that energized my composition, I intend to imply the continuity of time and space between two realities—reflection and real space. The movement of the figure also alludes to the ambiguous and transformative relationship between dualities—fantasy and reality, inauthenticity and authenticity, and life and death. Applying thin layers of subtle, translucent colours with fast brush strokes, I attempt to accentuate a sense of unstableness and ephemerality of our existence, which is always ‘in between.’
