For this project, Nate Prankard (4th year advertising) and I worked together on creating a rebrand for Herbal Essences. Our redesign was targeted for those who have visual impairments or are blind. We noticed that a lot of products in stores do not consider this consumer group when designing. so we took it upon ourselves to do that. We chose to work with Herbal Essences as they already try and accommodate those with visual impairments. They have started to implement tactile etchings on the back of their bottles to determine which is which (raised dots for conditioner, raised lines for shampoo). When it came to deciding our brand positioning, we wanted to create something targeted towards visually impaired customers without alienating current consumers. We also decided that we wanted to stray away from the plastic packaging and create an eco-friendly line of solid shampoo and conditioner (bar form). We used strong, contrasting colours and unique packaging forms in order to attract customers.
