Additional Experiments – The Process

Paper, Thread, Markers, Rolodex
Throughout my thesis, I created numerous experimental works that were eventually abandoned, but each contributed to shaping the final outcome. The Rolodex demonstrates the body of work I have explored in my first semester. The initial concept was to code generative art daily, charged by the strongest emotions. The process of making something new every day was exhausting. Therefore I moved on to analogue outcomes using generative systems and set conditionals. Paper Cutting is an experimentation approach to pattern-making through different materiality. It encourages curiosity through assigned cuts on folded paper to open up an unexpected radial pattern. I have done embroidery, loom, and Sashiko which are different techniques to ultimately embrace the imperfect self and mend harmful habits with beneficial patterns. Mood Motifs reveal my motif creation in a limited colour palette expressing my strongest emotion per day. It allows viewers to contemplate whether my life was satisfying based on the feelings I encountered. These motifs are displayed on the website as its singular unit and pattern (generated using the website).

“One of the aspects I loved most about thesis was the creative freedom to explore, experiment, and create beyond conventional approaches. Through building a body of work that supported my thesis, I began to develop a sense of identity and discovered what I truly enjoyed creating.”
