"Soft pliable surfaces are essential to the accommodation of human bodies and fragile cargo across a wide range of transport media. The oversized and elevated ergonomic seats held in the chassis of 16-wheelers belong to the same species as the far stiffer rows of miniaturized airplane seats which share a genus with the distantly related belts and cushions securing cargo down below. Here these design principles have been extruded into chain, it’s the skin of a padded support that extends via variable quantities of repeated rings. In this case the design is fabricated with 6 rings but its organizing principle could just as well accommodate 60. An opening is tucked underneath both ends of the chain allowing access to an unconfirmed filling – gas, pellets, foam... It is capable of being rolled up lengthwise, tucked into a case, moved, and unfurled again."
