Most of my art works are based on similar themes indicative of my personal life, experiences, and beliefs. I am originally from Iraq and was raised Muslim, however I am currently a gender non-conforming Sapphic. This very contrast has been the basis of the majority of my recent artworks. I mainly focus on the female form, and with this specific piece I focus on objectification, sexualization, sapphic themes, as well as suffocation etc. There are multiple feminine forms within my piece, some more distinct than others, I also included aspects of my cultural heritage such as the long flowing hair that extends to the floor and wraps around the other figures and Arabic text translating to “Virgin, Maiden”. I created all the individual pieces of this collage with watercolour, ink, and chalk pastel and then took photos of the separate pieces and digitally edited them together (removing the background, mirror flipping the red figure, etc).

“My work navigates the intersection of gender, sexuality, objectification, and personal trauma, often manifesting through surreal hyper-sexualized and sometimes distorted imagery of the female form....” [More]
