In this video installation, I experiment with light from the projector and a Mylar mirror to create a dream-like yet tangible fantasy within real space. I focus on investigating how the personal imaginary world has been constructed and enacted in the real world. Using only a few simple props to create the immersive illusion, I illustrate how the fragment of nostalgic memory or personal fantasy could be expanded within the physical world as a form of imagination, embracing escapism. We have been living under consistent contradictions and disjunctions between our imaginary world and reality. At some point, what we wish to be eternal may become an ephemeral illusion. It comes around us with fluidity as water flows, but it could also disappear suddenly or unconsciously, even if we still want to belong to it—to me, so is human life. The movement of the light reflection, which corresponds to the water flow from the projected video, suggests the fluidity and unity between the ephemeral dream and reality in a tangible way. By offering a pleasing but fleeting moment to the viewer, I intend to let the viewer feel such a sense of loss or nostalgia when the presence of light and the dream-like illusion disappears.
