Shark finning involves the removal of fins from captured sharks, often while the animal is still alive, followed by discarding the carcass at sea. This practice significantly contributes to the decline of shark populations, with many species now classified as vulnerable or endangered. Sharks play a critical role in maintaining the health of marine ecosystems as apex predators; their decline disrupts the balance of the ocean’s food web, impacting countless other species. This infographic sheds light on the devastating practice of shark finning, a major environmental issue that leads to the death of approximately 80 million sharks each year. By illustrating the brutal process of fin removal and the global trade routes fueling demand, the poster highlights how shark populations are being decimated to serve the luxury market for shark fin soup.
