The imagery surrounds a story in which Ukrainian servicemen found a young raven and proceeded to raise it in their dugout. The raven learned to steal their food, socks, and ammunition, often providing spurts of joy for the men within a dire environment. I chose to focus on the unique dynamic between the men and the bird, where both species co-exist with a mutual goal of attaining safety. Although the raven is playful, the composition featuring a fifty caliber ammunition belt is a reminder of the consistent looming danger facing those both near and far from the frontlines.
