“My works explore personal glimpses into nostalgia and kinship ties surrounding my Canadian-Ukrainian identity. By observing collected artifacts ranging from embroidered tapestries to stamps, I am able to visualize the interconnectedness between the two spaces I find to be familiar. The observation process is in constant conversation with themes of immigration, family ties, and tradition, as such values face instability amidst the current Russian-Ukrainian war. Including tiny details and small objects highlights the individual significance of each pattern, thread, and/or decoration as an inter-generational stamp of culture. In response to the present turmoil, my current body of work includes visualizations of politically charged objects and symbols, contrasting political aggression with visualizations of Ukrainian independence. ”
