Untitled (Living Room)
Painting
2024
Oil on wood board
This painting depicts the living room of my childhood home as it was originally decorated when my parents and I first moved in. Hanging at the top is a painting of my Dad's, who is also an artist. The windows show the darkness of the night with only certain branches showing through due to the flash of the camera.
“This work captures the essence and the soul of the home that raised me. The floorboards and windows remain as they were; painting this image not only transported me to the past but allowed me to connect it to the present. To reminisce on what was and how it has changed and morphed to become what is. This piece was the first in the series that explored the rest of the home as opposed to solely the rooms that were "mine". It helped me to discover that the emotions I am feeling are not solely connected to my childhood, but instead the passing of time and a fear of change. ”
