Empty Tables

Last year, 73% of tourists arrived by cruise ship, less than half arriving by air and a small minority on yachts. Despite these cruises being far more populous for tourism, they spent less than half the amount of money that by-air visitors did. Encouraged to stay on the boat, they often only purchase tourist-trap mementos and don’t engage with the local population, cuisine, or festivities beyond what their ship services provide for them.
