Reminiscence

The coat is made of cotton sateen with silk habotai as the inner lining. Its' design print was inspired by a design technique called Kaleidoscope Lettering.I chose the Chinese traditional character “Fu” as my inspiring word because “Fu” in my language means “blessing” and “Happiness”, it is a very common character to be seen in Chinese calligraphy art and in many households, especially during Chinese New Year. After making this motif, I transformed it into a digital file which allowed me to play with scale, colourways, and composition.

“Reminiscence is inspired by Hong Kong's iconic restaurant called “Cha Chaan Teng”. My abstract print motifs mimic the form and composition of the restaurant's green and ivory floor tiles that embody my childhood memories and nostalgia for my culture.”
