“This self-portrait by Vismay Sanghavi, created in collaboration with designer Sari Cheah and photographer Joon–Young Lee, explores the tension between the internal self and the external world. Drawing from spiritual inquiry and lived experience, the piece delves into themes of duality—faith and materialism, nature and artificiality, body and essence. Rendered in a stark monochromatic palette, the work emphasizes contrast as a visual metaphor for inner conflict and transformation. The worn garments symbolize the transient body, while the figure beneath represents a constant, unseen self. As layers unravel, the piece reveals an ongoing journey of metaphysical exploration—an ascension and descension through the unknown.”
