Through images of everyday experience Lüften taps into a secluded and meditative mindstate, accessed through an attention to one’s own sensory experience. Lüften is a household practice, common in Germany, that supports fresh air flow in the home by opening all windows to promote cycling. It reflects a purging of stale and an invitation to freshness, silently renewing.

“A strict focus on the sensorial experience of the world can cause all else to fade. Meditation often involves conscious effort, along with silence and removal from the sensory disruptions of the world. But paying attention can be quite easy. It resides in what is felt, seen and remembered.Lüften encourages the viewer not to look at the subject in a new light, but to look at one’s own looking anew.”
