Intersectional Layers was created using a combination of Risograph and laser printed animation frames. It displays a selection of clips representing Eastern and Western fashion. Fashion exists at the intersection of culture and identity, allowing for an individual to express themselves outwardly. For many third culture kids, second generation immigrants, and those who identify with multiple cultures, ethnicities, or nationalities, there exists a feeling of cultural dysphoria or dissonance. This is reinforced by a culture of emphasizing identity, especially relating to cultural roots. Intersectional Layers exists to represent the internal divisiveness that is created by being pulled towards both a cultural background and Western society. However, it is also saying that these two worlds can co-exist and create a unique identity that allows space for intersectionality.
