CHRON PRISON
Environmental Design
2023
Through investigating past and contemporary prison design, in order to understand how corrections and incarceration are carried out differently in each prison, while we have recognized the adverse effects of poorly designed prisons, the designers are now on the road to over-humanization prison. I hope it will be helpful to the future to reach the point where the prison is a building that protects the victims and their families as well as the dignity of the inmates. Time is required to devote in prison for inmates, therefore it is an important concept in this design – to cause awareness and self-critical reflection of being incarcerated. If architecture can make people conscious, then they can make a change. Through the relationship between building and time perception, dividing functional space and the flow of time in different areas, while maintaining prison functionality, the architecture will also explore the impact and experience of space on the passage of time, to differ the situation and circumstances by staff and prisoners.
