Amor Est Ante Tempus (Love Is Before Time) is a beaded work using size 11/0 glass beads on fabric stabilizer. The materials which form and inform our bodies and lives were catapulted into existence by the Big Bang. In that time before time, the primordial soup full of possibility, that is where I believe is the heart we all share - our home. In that space, there is nothing but the possibility of all things. Considering this idea, my work illustrates this cosmic singularity by depicting the emergence and beginning of time. The circular forms and stripes show colour and pattern undulating from the central golden bead in the larger of the two circles. This bead is meant to represent the source and start of all things. From this source bead, the rings form and move outward. The rings of beads are striking and random - some rings are consistent in their patterns while others are scattered. I thought it would be fitting to create some chaos in the work - some entropy - to illustrate that anything and everything is happening at once in the work. This piece is part of a larger collaborative project currently in the "Consulting with the Ether" exhibition in the TD Gallery at the Toronto Reference Library (789 Yonge Street).
