Forgotten Memories

Drawing
2023
Charcoal on canvas
24"x36"
This art piece is a reflection of the mortality of human beings and the immortality in the art that we create. By creating a permanent structure that leads into the ocean, I am creating a reference to the immortality of architecture and the notion of time, the ocean, in which we beings will succumb to. Not only are the beach and architecture metaphors, the horizon line is placed higher to create this sense of being uplifted and guided to the beach, just like a spirit being guided to rest; again referencing the mortality of living beings. As the theme for this piece is the impermanence of humans, the use of charcoal is important as it is a material which can be erased and easily tempered with, making the original form being forgotten.

“The world is filled with many unknown mysteries and forgotten history. However, there will always be elements which are permanent to Earth. When it comes to beings, we are anything but permanent, we eventually become a part of forgotten history. This then means that us beings wouldn’t be remembered, but rather things that we have crafted.”
