Heart of my Sister (2)
Painting
2024
Oil on wood board
36'' x 48''
This work acts as a second part to its prior, "Heart of my Sister (1)". This work shows another angle of my basement playroom, depicting a television along with multiple colouring books, makeup products and toys. On the carpet there is a strawberry shortcake matt with characters skating across. The reflections of light create interesting moments within the walls.
“This piece is a snapshot of the carefree attitude of childhood and play. The room is lived in; the touch of a child is evident in the placement of things and everything has been left exactly as it was. The joy and importance of play is captured in that moment, and is allowed to live forever. That room contained the laughter, tears, and joy of not only one girl but two. Myself and my best friend spent days in that room, comforting one another and being girls together. Our hearts live on in that room. ”
