Apocryphal
Essay
2023
Written research to accompany the five visual works, "April," "At these special occasions I think life is worth living," "Like a jewel thrown at a Polluted brookling," "One of the most difficult aspects of our existence is to make sense of it," and "What a wonderful world it is, the world of software for computers." The font is a custom text I designed based on samples of my grandfather's handwriting from the labels of his floppy disks. Inspired by artist Cecile B Evans open-access notes, I've attached an open access google doc with my essay. Please feel free to make edits, comments, changes, or just say hi <3For accessibility purposes, I've attached a .pdf in plain text.
“'Apocryphal means of doubtful truth or authenticity. Near synonyms include false, questionable, spurious, and inaccurate. The word apocryphal is related to the Apocrypha. Certain Christian writings omitted from the New Testament because they were considered to be inauthentic. This name comes from the Latin 'apocryphus,' (secret) or from the Greek 'apokryphos' (hidden) and 'kryptein' (hide).' (Luís Aguiar, 'Apocryphal,' Date Unknown).”
