"During the summer of 2022 I encountered a steel plate fastened to the door of a storage building in rural Connecticut. The purpose of the plate was opaque, it had no clear function, nor did connote any recognizable form of branding or allegiance – I immediately documented it out of curiosity. I’ve returned to this object through a formal study, extending the logic of its design through an edit of the bottom edge of the shape. I consider this an attempt to get a grip on the form and its surrounding atmosphere by tweaking some of its qualities. in doing so, the original object’s genus expands. While the new plate-species might open a new way of seeing its predecessor, it has its own autonomy and relates to the ways in which prefabricated planes come to be furnished with layers of cryptic materials in accordance with the movements of their surroundings."
