“In this body of work, ridged, fossilized and ingrained archaeological and geological forms are explored in their relation to the water element to integrate their changing fluid nature into the representations of them. Following abstracted ideas, rules and other forms of representation too closely cause fossilization to occur, but too little structure and one melts into a puddle. I understand these works as manifestations of the psychological concept of flow states, where one's experience of representations and presence as well as separateness and integration exist in a balance, and give way for creativity and discovery to arise within an individual. ”

Alex Power is a multidisciplinary artist exploring drawing, painting and sculpture. Because of her background in yoga studies and practice, she is interested in the mind and ways in which individuals can focus their attention and effect their experience of the world. Having a holistic understanding of the world, and acknowledging its fluidity and interconnectivity its extremely important to one’s happiness and sense of meaning and purpose. Her work uses natural elements to visualize separateness and interconnectivity existing simultaneously and in harmony to hold these seemingly “contradictory” truths together at once.
