“When a dream repeats, we tend to ask after its meaning. The suspenseful crux of my recurring dream is the vision of a horse out of place. The specific symbol of the horse, in dreams and in art, spreads over a varied span of interpretation. The horse in the dream may or may not be in peril – at times seeming as resolute as it is vulnerable. There is a tension of meaning. Oneirics is a trio of metal and felted wool works that fasten the fleeting in physical material. The patient processes by which this imagery is recollected, finely chasing and gently massaging, translate the dream into objects. Its meaning is negotiated forth in lucidity from the margins of the sleeping mind.”

Jessica Prust is an artist living in Toronto. Her practice is based in the meditative processes of hand-felting wool and metalwork, in both fine art and wearable contexts. Recently, Jessica is propelled by the strange and spontaneous creative impulse first propagated in dreams. Her aim is to clarify in objects the intricate experience of the dreaming mind.
