Photography

“Emily Guitar is a lens-based artist based in Toronto, exploring mental health, feminism, and sex work. Inspired by her experiences with addiction and sex work, as well as her research on the history of sex work and mental health treatments, Guitar creates work that pushes its audience to question their understanding of these marginalized communities through representation that is honest and vulnerable. She honed her skills at the Etobicoke School of The Arts, completing the Contemporary Visual Arts Program. Emily has showcased her work in various exhibitions, including "My Being," addressing rape culture. She's been featured in exhibitions like "Resolution" at OCAD University and an online exhibition hosted by Gallery Mui. Recognized for her contributions, she received the White Ribbon for Outstanding Community Educator in June 2019. Notable exhibitions include the Femme Fatal Festival at Super Market, Toronto in December 2019, exploring femininity and empowerment. Emily is committed to using her art for social change, continually exploring new avenues of expression and advocacy”
