“Developing my Filipino culture, I’ve learned that it’s a process that continues. I present imagery that gives me a sense of comfort through nostalgia in my choices of subjects and colours. I share them hoping to invite conversations of both familiarity and wonder.”
Abby Tibon is a first-generation Filipino Canadian based in Toronto, Ontario. She is graduating from the Drawing and Painting program at OCAD University. Tibon uses her art to bring representation for Filipino Canadians. She focuses on making art that captures people’s stories. She believes in intent observations to express emotions through the human figure. She challenges herself to learn new mediums such as clay and digital media. Tibon currently teaches children Drawing and Painting at The Canadian Contemporary School of Art. She plans on furthering her career as an educator in the Master of Teaching program at OISE at the University of Toronto.
